So What Exactly Is This?

Alpha is 10 weeks of dinner and honest conversation about the biggest questions people have about life and faith. It started in a London church in 1977, and it has since run in homes, cafés, prisons, offices, and churches in 112 languages. Millions of people have sat at an Alpha table. Plenty of them weren’t religious at all.

Here’s what it isn’t. It isn’t a lecture. It isn’t a membership drive. It isn’t a room full of people who already agree with each other.

You’ll eat, you’ll watch a short film about one big question, and then you’ll talk about it with a handful of other people who are working it out too. You don’t have to believe anything to come. You just have to be curious.

What a Wednesday Night Looks Like?

1. Eat

Every night starts with a real meal. Nobody thinks clearly on an empty stomach, and it’s easier to talk to someone once you’ve passed them the salt.

2. Watch

A short film, around 25 minutes, on one big question. Well made, honest, and not preachy.

That’s it. That’s the whole night.

3. Talk

The best part, according to almost everyone who’s done it. Small group, same table each week. Say what you actually think. Disagree out loud. Ask the thing you’ve been sitting on for years.

You’ve wondered whether there’s something more to all this, but church has never felt like somewhere you could ask without getting a pamphlet. This is somewhere you can ask.

Skeptical

You have real objections, and you’re tired of them being treated as a problem to be fixed. Bring them. Nobody at your table is going to flinch.

Returning

You grew up with this, walked away, and something still pulls at you. No one is going to ask where you’ve been.
